You is kind, You is smart, and You is important.

Self-image Issues.

I know I am not the first to struggle with self-image. This is an on-going problem cycling through society today.. We are told from the start that “this” and “that” is the “in” thing and if you don’t look like “this” than you’re not going to be accepted.

As a woman, I constantly see other women that I think, look way prettier or fit than I see myself and I get discouraged. We should be able to look at each other and lift each other up instead of being jealous of what one has got and the other has not. {Accept one another, then, just as Christ accepted you, in order to bring praise to God” Romans 15:7}

We should be confident in who we are and what we look like. I mean, the God of ALL CREATION made us all individually, He knitted us in our mothers womb, {Psalm 139:13} I am pretty sure we are all special and uniquely created! We are God’s masterpiece. So, why don’t we feel that way?

  1. We let the trends of today determine what we think of ourselves.

We constantly try to change ourselves as new trends come in, if we aren’t doing this or wearing that we aren’t good enough. So when new things come in style we automatically put ourselves down if we don’t have it, or can’t pull it off. NEWSFLASH: EVERYTHING ISN’T FOR EVERYONE. Your identity should be found in Christ, not in trends. {So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.” Genesis 1:27} In that verse it says we were created in the image of God, if that doesn’t move mountains in your spirit, I don’t know what will. Be comfortable with yourself.

2. We let people’s words become stronger than Gods’ words.

How often do we think about what other people have said about us? Now, lets be honest whether we do it a little or a lot, we all do it. You can tell me 4,000 times that you don’t care what people think but in reality, somewhere deep inside, you do. When we look at ourselves in the mirrors we see our flaws and imperfections but the only reason we see those things is because we have had someone point them out. So we tend to get insecure and think the same thing of ourselves. When did people become more important than God, the creator of heaven and earth? {“It is dangerous to be concerned with what others think of you, but if you trust the Lord, you are safe.” Proverbs 29:25} Start spending time with Him, read His word, pray and communicate with Him throughout the whole day. When you shift your focus on Him, it is easy to let the opinions of others go through one ear and out the other.

3. We’re letting the enemy ruin our thoughts.

God constantly tells us our worth in the bible. Let me give you a few examples,

  • “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.” John 3:16
  •  “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.” Jeremiah 29:11
  • Are not five sparrows sold for two pennies? Yet not one of them is forgotten by God. 7Indeed, the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.” Luke 12:6-7

The first verse tells me that God thinks enough of me that even if it were just ME he had to save, He would have sent His son anyway. He sent His own son to die for me because He loves me and cares for me and wants to spend eternity with me. Eternity with me??? That’s crazy! That’s how much He loves us and cares for us. The second verse is telling us that the God of the universe has an individual plan for each of us that brings us nothing but goodness, hope and a future! Than this last one, we are far more important than a sparrow. God knows every single hair on our head! He has numbered them all, some of us that’s a lot and some of us, that is very little haha! Whether we have many hairs or little hairs, He has counted them individually and knows every part of you inside and out. If a simple sparrow is not forgotten by God, than you are definitely not forgotten.

Be encouraged today, talk to God about what you don’t like about yourself and let Him show you why He loves those things and why He loves you. When you embrace the love of God each morning, it awakens your spirit to love yourself and be motivated to do things you never thought you could.

In the words of Abilene Clark, “You is kind, you is smart, and you is important.”

Trusting in God When We Have to Adult.

Adulting is a REAL struggle. Being that I am almost 21 and most of my friends and peers are in their early 20’s, everyone is attending or graduating college, getting married, moving toward their careers or having babies. I don’t know about you but sometimes I wish I could go back to being a kid when I could play outside all day and not worry about anything!

It just seems like the older we get, we forget how to PAUSE. We get so caught up in work, college, and our personal lives that we forget to just pause, breathe and take everything in. We forget how to be thankful, I know growing up my parents taught me to always be thankful for what I had and I think I have forgotten that, to a certain extent… So today I am going to give you three things that help me to take a break from the world and it’s busyness.

  1. Spend time in the Word.
  • It is no secret that the Lord wants us to be joyful, even when we are going through tough times. {“Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance.” James 1:2-3} I find it helpful to spend some time with the Lord every day, whether it is 5 minutes or 2 hours. It is the best to wake up and spend time with Him in the mornings before your day gets started, it fills you with the spirit and starts you off on the right foot with a good attitude! If you can’t find time in the morning, take time out of your day at some point where you can spend quiet time with Him. If you have time to check Facebook or Instagram, you have time to read the Word.

2. React with kindness.

  • I don’t know about you, but everyday there is something that goes wrong or someone who does something wrong. How we react shows are true character. Meditate on the fact that how people act is none of your business, and it will never be! We will never know why things happen or why people act the way they do and to be honest it isn’t for us to know. All I know is that how we react, IS our business. We can react in a way that angers us for the rest of the day or we can react in a way that we can shrug it off and go on with our day. {“But love your enemies, and do good, and lend, expecting nothing in return; and your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High; for He Himself is kind to ungrateful and evil men.” Luke 6:35}

3. Always, Praise.

  • When you are having a horrible day and everything is going wrong and you feel like you are about to break just praise Him! I had a friend who advised another friend to start singing “Every Praise” every time she got aggravated or something tested her, and when she does this it gives her peace and makes her spirit brighter. She can go through her day without a bad attitude because she is using her energy for the Lord not on people and negative things. We have to learn to focus on our attention on Jesus and not the things of this world. People, and situations can often get us in a place of depression, anxiety or anger. We don’t have to be stuck in that place, we just have to fix our focus .

So, tomorrow start your day with time in the Word, react with kindness and always, I mean ALWAYS praise! When you do these things you will start to see things aren’t so bad, and even when they are you don’t have to focus on them. Reset yourself and meditate on the goodness of God.

much love,
